Recently removed from the Endangered Species List in the states of Idaho and Montana, the Gray Wolf is currently being hunted with the intention of reducing its numbers by two-thirds. How can a species be considered “endangered” one moment, and a “game animal” the next?

Studies show that when wolves are present in an ecosystem, small game animals increase, bird populations improve, and coyote populations diminish. The behavior of elk and deer change, as they congregate in smaller, more mobile groups .  By not over browsing streambeds and valleys, bird habitat is improved. The ecosystem is balanced, and the hunter’s “game” is more of a challenge.
